Casual Date Night // Come Fly With Me

If there is one thing most people know about me it’s that cheese is my favorite food. Steven and I have always gone to goat.sheep.cow. on the lower peninsula to pick out some fun, exotic cheeses to explore. When they opened their North location (closer to my house), we were pumped.

This location is different than the original because it has seating and a bar – the other is more of a carry-out place. We headed there last night for a fun date.

I feel a little like a flight attendant in this scarf, but I’m okay with it. I think it adds a fun touch to a basic dress! Plus, it looks like I should have ridden to dinner on a Vespa.

The Look: Denim Work Dress - Old Navy (on sale right now in store), Scarf - Old Navy, Espadrilles - Kanna (from Marshall's).

The night before we went to dinner, Bonny and I went to the Royal American and had the pleasure of seeing Leyla McCalla,  a truly gorgeous artist. Her two bandmates backed her on the viola, banjo, and triangle while she sang a mixture of Langston Hughes inspired tunes and old Haitian folk songs. She also played the cello and banjo as well. The band lives in New Orleans now, so a lot of their songs had that earthy soulfulness that only the South can produce. I’ve been listening to her since.

Her songs are a mixture of French, Haitian Creole, and English. The tune I picked has been on repeat for the past two days, but you should also listen to A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey and Peze Cafe. Actually, just listen to all of it.
